More Things We Tend to Forget
(Article Contributed By Marie, of Sex Story Text - Posted on December 19th, 2011)

Earlier this month I wrote about two things we tend to forget as webmasters and marketers and today I thought I might give you another gentle nudge to get you thinking about other things that you may have forgotten.

It is easy to forget things when you've got your head down working to make a living in what has become a rather tough environment. Important things slowly slip from the forefront of your mind until you reach the point where you're missing many of the important things that you need to incorporate into your marketing if you want to make more than just chump change.

So today here are a few more things that you may have forgotten and that may be worth bringing back into your marketing mix.

Bullshit
Never give your target audience the chance to label what you're saying as bullshit. As soon as you make a statement about the product you're selling ... or the fantasy you're trying to weave ... that allows your audience to declare 'bullshit' ... you've lost them and once you've lost them they're not going to buy from you.

So by all means weave your fantasies ... tell stories ... but don't overdo it. Perhaps one marketing expert was right on the money when he said recently "... tell the truth but make the truth fascinating."

Trivial things matter
Over the years I've met lots of adult webmasters who basically said that what they see as trivial things ... things like spelling ... grammar ... even punctuation ... just don't matter. Those things just don't get in the way of making sales.

Funnily enough most of the people who have said that to me aren't in the online industry anymore. They left because they just weren't making any money and they weren't making money because ... trivial things do matter.

When you're asking someone to part with their cash ... to reach for their credit card ... then everything matters! Every little thing that can possibly get between you and a potential sale matters because people are turned off by many things that may seem very trivial to you or me.

It doesn't even have to be something that consciously turns them off ... it can be something that just bothers them subconsciously enough to make them decide not to buy what you're selling. So don't rush through the process of building a site ... check your work ... check all those trivial things that you think don't matter because they do matter .

The eyes have it
When you meet a person in the street you almost always look at their face ... and into their eyes. It's the natural thing to do and it's also something that people do when they're looking at porn. They want to look into the face ... and the eyes ... of the people who are banging their brains out.

They want to see the real person and decided whether or not they're really enjoying what they're doing so if you want to make a sale you'll show them what they want to see. Choose images and video clips that show the performers faces and you'll have a much better chance of making a sale.

Think about the eyes when you're choosing a new niche to promote too. I can think of one niche that's quite popular where you rarely see much of the performers' faces in the promo content that's out there. Instead that content focuses on another part of the girl's anatomy and I wonder just how much of a negative impact that has on sales in that niche.

Moving pictures
If you're still stuck back in dark ages and only using images for your free sites and galleries then for goodness sake get with the times. These days potential buyers want to see video ... and that's a given regardless of what you're selling.

Hell even Virgin saw an large increase in flight bookings when they began to include video on their website so if you're not using video to promote your sponsors then you really are missing out!

Unique selling points
What is the unique selling point that you use for each of your sponsors? What is the one thing that will separate what your sponsor is offering that makes them a better choice for porn lovers than all the other sponsors out there?

If you can't identify a unique selling point to hit your surfers with then maybe you need to either look harder or find a sponsor who does have a unique selling point because, in a saturated market like ours, that unique selling point is what will make you money.

And that's where I'll leave it for now ... I'll be back with some more next week. Before I go I just want to wish you all a very merry Christmas ... get away from your computer and spend Christmas with your family.
