Rewards and Dangers
(Article Contributed By Marie, of Sex Story Text - Posted on January 27th, 2010)
Even before I got up this morning I knew that this was going to be a hard day. I've got absolutely heaps of work to do and yet I just don't feel like working. It might be Wednesday but, because yesterday was a public holiday here in Australia, it feels like the very worst kind of Monday.
Yesterday we found our way down to a lake a couple of hours south of here and just sat by the water and listened to the wind in the trees and watched people fishing and neither Steve nor I wanted to come home.
It was just so peaceful there ... a million miles from everything bad that's going on in the world ... that it was almost impossible to get back in the car and head home. Now I'm looking at the work I have to do ... I can see the sun shining outside ... I know it would be so easy just to get back in the car and drive down to that lake again ... but I'm not going to do it.
I'm not even going to download the trip photos from our cameras or make myself the cup of coffee that I'm craving because I'm going to use those little treats as motivation to get some work done. Once I write this column then I'll make that cup of coffee ... when I've done the second job on my list then I'll download the photos.
That's one of the ways I use to get motivated and actually do something positive when I really don't feel like working. Later on today I want to get out of the office for a while and do some outdoor photos for a project Steve and I are working on ... but I'm not going to do that fun job till I've crossed a few more things off the list of jobs I've got to do today.
Now I know that method of overcoming lethargy and Mondayitis sounds rather simplistic and you're probably laughing at me right now but try it the next time you really don't want to sit down and build your next free site or gallery. You may find that offering yourself a reward for getting some work done will get you motivated.
I know that right now I can almost taste the coffee so I'm on a mission to get this column done and dusted!
When Business Partners Fall Out
We all seem to come into this business alone and many of us will stay lone-wolves for the entire time we stay in this industry. Sure, we may grow our business to the stage where we are actually employing other people but we are still the captain of our own future and we share that responsibility with no one else.
Some people though will have the opportunity to move into some form of partnership with another webmaster in this industry and together you'll do business with other people. Partnerships often bring together people who have complimentary skills that, when joined together, can take the individuals way beyond what they might have achieved alone.
And that's great ... a partnership with another person in this business can do great things to boost your income levels ... but they can also destroy you unless you take precautions.
Here in the mainstream world where I live two young people have just ended a partnership that, at one time, looked as though it might take them to the top of their field in this area. They were doing great things together and taking work away from other players in their field but what none of us realized was that the partnership was never going to last.
One was greedy and one was gullible. One drove a deal to form the partnership that was more than positive for that person while the other agreed to some incredible terms that left them with very little income from the partnership. One wanted to screw every last cent out of their clients while the other had very little idea about how to provide good customer service.
Finally, when the gullible one woke up to the fact that they were being conned the partnership fell apart and the greedy one has now all but disappeared from the business scene for it was the gullible one who had all the skills. And no one wants to do business with the gullible one because they're tainted by their association with the greedy one.
It seems like the ultimate in lose/lose situations.
So if you have the opportunity to join forces with someone else in this business make sure that the terms of the partnership are clearly spelt out. Make sure that those terms are fair for both people in the partnership and only go into a partnership with someone who shares the same business principles as you.
I know it sounds all very business-like and perhaps even too complicated for the free and easy business life you expected to find here in adult but taking some time to build a real business partnership can protect you and save you money in the long term.
