How Many Signups Should I Get
(Article Contributed By Marie, of Sex Story Text - Posted on February 22nd, 2010)
That was a question asked on one of the leading adult webmaster boards today in relation to a listing on The Hun. The guy who asked it was looking for some sort of benchmark that he could compare his conversion rates to and the answers he got were very interesting.
Back in the day you just knew that if The Hun listed your gallery then your server was in for a hammering. Your bandwidth would spike and if you weren't locked in to a hosting plan that gave you plenty of bandwidth then the overages could rip a very large hole in your bank balance.
But at the same time ... unless you totally sucked at gallery design ... you also knew that you could count on at least a few signups. If you were promoting something new ... or you had outstanding gallery design skills ... then you knew that you could count on some great signups.
I knew of newbies back then who got listed on The Hun and were totally wiped out simply because they had no idea of how much bandwidth one gallery would burn through and their design skills were poor. At the same time I know of some more experienced webmasters who could make a thousand bucks a day from just one listing.
It was wild times and a lot of fun back then so it was interesting to read what people were saying about a listing on The Hun these days. I guess that it's a sign of the times that many people are now having very little success where they once made plenty of cash.
Quite a few people responded to the question about signups and at least half of them suggested that these days they struggled to get even one signup from a gallery on The Hun. There's still plenty of bandwidth that gets used but for them signups were definitely down.
Some even suggested that the amount of traffic they get from The Hun has dropped as well. There were a few that suggested that the traffic they did get from The Hun was mostly comprised of teenagers who had no credit cards to use so it was a total waste while others thought that the traffic was mostly older people who might have had a credit card but probably had no credit left on their cards.
There were some interesting comments from those who did admit to still getting sales from The Hun listings and we'll come to those in a moment but first lets look at the number of sales those people said they got from their galleries.
While one or two said that they regularly got around 50 sales from a single gallery most seemed to get less than 10 sales from a listing. A few suggested that they only ever seemed to get a single sale from a gallery but the average number of sales seemed to be around three.
Of course you do have to wonder whether people are reporting their real figures or not. After all who is going to go on submitting galleries to The Hun if all they're going to get is a large bandwidth bill and just one signup?
However I guess you have to take threads like this one on face value and maybe there are people who keep on chasing a gallery listing on The Hun in the hope that one day they will get more than just one signup.
What was interesting though was what many of those who reported good sales had to say about what they were promoting. A common theme throughout the thread was that if you wanted to get good sales then you had to push content that was extreme ... and let's face it, over the years The Hun has not been afraid to list galleries that dealt with some very extreme subjects.
So it seems that these days, if you want to get some great signups from a listing on The Hun you have to promote stuff that you might find distasteful ... unpleasant ... maybe even sickening ... but definitely not illegal.
As one webmaster suggested, if it makes you feel ill then it's probably going to sell well on The Hun.
So should you promote that sort of content? Well that's a matter that's totally up to you but if you can't handle it yourself then the chances are that you probably won't do a very good job of promoting it so the sales you hope to achieve might not happen for you.
