Keep The Message Simple

Over the weekend I had a chance to drive a most amazing car. It was a hybrid, it had a petrol engine as well as an electric motor and while it was in motion it was mixing power from the petrol engine and power from the electric motor to suit the driving conditions and reduce fuel consumption.
Regardless of whether I was out on the highway driving at highway speeds, zooming around hairpin bends on steep grades or driving much more slowly through towns the car kept on doing its thing and choosing the right amount of power from both sources to suit the conditions. And while all that was going on all I had to do was steer, accelerate and brake.
I didn't even have to choose a gear because this car has no conventional manual or automatic gearbox or torque converter. It's almost direct drive and it's always in the 'right' gear.
At first thought driving a car that is so high-tech can be a little scary ... what if I got things wrong? What if I stalled it? What if I let the battery that fed the electric motor go flat?
Of course, I didn't have to worry about any of those things ... the car did it all for me. I didn't even have to turn on the wipers when it started to rain because that was all handled automatically too. Despite the fact that the car was technologically advanced the message I got as the driver was simple ... easy to understand ... definitely not frightening but very reassuring.
Now if you've been in adult online marketing for very long you'll understand the importance of keeping your message simple. You'll know that the surfers who hit your sites respond best to messages that are direct ... concise ... clear ... unequivocal and easily understood.
If you haven't been in this business for long then those are lessons that you may still need to learn and the sooner you learn them the sooner you will start to make money.
Of course, you may not want to believe me. You may think that the best way to make a sale is to go into plenty of detail ... provide lots of information ... make sure that you've covered every possible detail and only then will your surfers be comfortable enough to buy from your sponsor.
If that's the case then think what it would be like to drive the car I drove over the weekend but instead of getting a simple message on the dashboard I was asked to choose between petrol and electricity ... I was told that this grade would be handled better if I accelerated one more mile per hour and turned the air conditioning down one notch while I did it.
And at the same time I was being told that it was raining and I should turn on the wipers but not too fast because that would drain the battery and slow the car down ... the fuel was getting low and I should find a gas station in the next 10 minutes ... my passenger was giving off too much body heat and he should wind down his window to help the air conditioner work more effectively.
If you were driving a car that gave you all that information all at the same time fairly soon you would either be insane or walking. Fortunately the designers of the car I was driving know that all the information the driver needs is how fast the car is going and how much fuel is left in the tank. With that information you can enjoy the drive ... with too much information it becomes a nightmare and you're not going to buy a car that turns driving into a nightmare now are you?
And it's the same with selling memberships for your sponsor. You need to keep the message simple ... you tell the surfer that you know what they're looking for ... you know where the best examples of what they're looking for can be found and if they 'Click Here' they'll find it.
If you flood them with too much information they'll run away screaming and keep on running until they find a site that will give them what they want. They want to be entertained ... not overwhelmed with all the fine details that you might think they want.
You keep your message plain and simple and many of them will go where you want them to go and they will do what you want them to do and that simple and plain message will put money in your pocket far more quickly than any long and involved message could possibly do.
So learn the art of keeping your message simple and you too will prosper ... just like the company that built the car I was driving prospers ... even in difficult times like these.
